General Informations

The Stone Talus is one of the three main overworld sub-bosses found in Breath of the Wild. It disguises itself in the ground as a collection of rocks, and the boss forms as Link draws near. The Stone Talus is the first overworld boss Link can encounter in the game, situated in the Forest of Spirits on the Great Plateau. There are 40 of these bosses spread throughout all of Hyrule. Along with the standard Stone Talus, Link can also encounter the Frost Talus and Igneo Talus, among others. Defeating all 40 and reporting to Kilton at the Fang and Bone rewards Link with the Medal of Honor: Talus.

General attack-moves
The Stone Talus has simple but strong melee attacks, easy to avoid due to their obvious telegraph and the Talus' generally slow speed. It rears back to swing hard with its left arm or pounds Link into the ground with its right arm At range, the Stone Talus will throw one of its arms towards Link, losing the arm in the process. Once it loses both arms, it will slam one side down to replenish its arm, then the other. At this point, and at any time when the Stone Talus' body is at ground level, Link has a window of opportunity to climb atop the Stone Talus.
Frost Talus
Frost Talus attack in the same manner as other Talus, they will use their arms and body in attempt to crush Link, however, they now cause Ice explosions that can damage him, either by throwing its arms, or slamming its body against the ground. The other challenge the Frost Talus presents is that its body is far too Cold for Link to climb. Climbing onto and standing on the boss will cause Link to Freeze. This can all be avoided, however, with the use of any Fire-powered weapons, including Flame Rods and Fire Arrows, or by wearing the Snowquill Set, which can be bought in Rito Village, at least on two stars. Attacking the Talus with any Fire weapons will cause it to be stunned, and melt the Ice coursing through its body, giving Link time to attack the Ore Deposit on its body, however, the Frost Talus will try to refreeze itself after a short period of time.
Igneo Talus
Igneo Talus attack in the same manner as other Talus, they will use their arms and body in attempt to crush Link, however, they now cause explosions that can damage him, either by throwing its arms, or slamming its body against the ground. The other challenge the Igneo Talus presents is that its body is far too hot for Link to climb. Climbing onto, and standing on the boss will cause Link to take damage at a fast rate. This can all be avoided, however, with the use of any cold-powered weapons, including Ice Rods and Ice Arrows or by wearing the Flamebreaker Set, which can be bought in Coron City, with every piece at least on two stars. Attacking the Talus with any cold weapons will cause it to be stunned, and put out the fire coursing through its body, giving Link time to attack the Ore Deposit on its body, however, the Igneo Talus will try to relight itself after a short period of time.
